Being a matriarchal society, it\u2019s one of the older females who is the master of the herd. Members of the family consist of her offspring, sisters and their offspring. A family unit can be as small as 3 members to as large as 25 members or more. The elephant herds consist of closely related family units and may consist of up to 100 individuals.
